Create a list yet of new things you want to achieve for the new year? I know I certainly have. Are you still staring at that list almost paralyzed by it? Yup - been there, done that.
When you start a new habit you're faced with two BIG challenges.
CHALLENGE ONE:
Getting started seems like you're faced with a mountain. It's too tall. Too wide. Too much. It's easy to say that you'll get started on it when _____. You have more time, have more resources - you get the idea. Breathe.
Focus on breaking down what you want to do, piece by piece. So the big goal may be to workout. A smaller piece would be to put on your workout clothes first. Not enough time to do the new habit? Start with just five minutes, or one page of that book for your reading goal. It's always nice to have set time for your habit, but that's not always realistic. On a really busy or tiring day, just making a second for it is a game changer. Those seconds add up.
CHALLENGE TWO:
Doing the new habit is UNCOMFORTABLE. It won't feel quite right at first. Whether your attention won't settle for meditation, or your daily journaling feels like pulling teeth - that's okay. A new habit is a lot like building a new muscle. It won't be strong at first. But, the more you do it, the more comfortable it'll feel. So, what are you waiting for? Let's get started!
